AmaZulu players Luvuyo Memela, Mbongeni Gumede call for patience from fans

New club president Sandile Zungu is aiming for a top-four finish with Benni McCarthy and new technical team the helm, but it is taking a while to get going.

Usuthu have played entertaining football in the DStv Premiership but have been failing to convert their chances, which has seen them drop points in games they should have won.

One of their star players this season Luvuyo Memela, who has scored six goals, spoke to the media ahead of their visit to SuperSport United today (17h00).

"Mindset, we are ready for the game, we know we need to get three points, but what is important is to focus on ourselves and give the same performances we produced in the past games even though we didn't take our chances," Memela said.

"Make sure we convert them and get maximum points, but playing SuperSport United, you can't go there with no respect and thinking it's going to be an easy game because it won't be easy."

With results not coming and frustration growing for the coach, that may also be the case for the supporters, and Memela says as players they need to show Usuthu loyalists that they deserve to don the green and white colours.

"We know it's all because of this pandemic, but what is important is showing them on the pitch that we want to win the game and stay consistent," Memela added.

"We need them even though they can't be with us in the stadiums. We need to win games for them and urge them to be patient with us."

One of the senior players in the team, Mbongeni Gumede, promises that the team will fight to get maximum points against Matsatsantsa and echoes Memela in the call for patience.

"I think the momentum we have, it's important that we concentrate and convert chances because we play well, it's just that we are not getting maximum points. We create chances but have nothing to show for it," he said.

"We miss them on the field, they play a huge role in uplifting us when we are down. We urge them to be patient with us because there are new changes in the club and we are playing well. We are united so we need their patience and promise points will come."
