Former Kaizer Chiefs head coach Cavin Johnson admits that he wouldn’t have considered signing Sipho Mbule during his time at the club.
In the 2023/2024 season, Johnson served as the caretaker coach for Amakhosi.

At that time, the club had an attacking midfield department that included Mduduzi Mdantsane, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Mduduzi Shabalala, Lehlogonolo Matlou, and Mfundo Vilakazi.
Johnson mentions that the reports about Mbule's off-field behavior could have influenced his decision not to sign the talented midfielder.
“Sipho Mbule just needs to ensure that he stays out of trouble with the club because of his history,” Johnson tells KickOff.
“He needs to have a good pre-season, stay off social media, and concentrate on his game. He is a good player.
“Would I have signed him at Chiefs given the opportunity? When I was at Chiefs, there weren’t good reports about what Mbule was doing, so I wouldn’t have done it back then.

“But now that he has changed his mindset and Orlando Pirates have given him an opportunity, I only wish him the best.
“We will only know for sure once the season starts if Sundowns will face a challenge this time around. There are significant changes in both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, including new coaches and players. We need to see if they will gel once the league starts. Sundowns haven’t made many changes, so they should start the season more convincingly.
“It’s important that the new signings at Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have a good pre-season to enable them to start the season well.”
