Chiefs punished by Utrecht in friendly

Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 4-0 loss to Dutch outfit FC Utrecht in their second pre-season match on Friday evening.

The Soweto giants fielded another strong eleven from the loss to Vitesse Arnhem, which included Glodly Lilepo and Flavio Da Silva in the attack.

Chiefs got off to a disappointing start five minutes in though as Siebe Horemans tapped in from close-range following a cross from the right-side.

There was more trouble for the Amakhosi a little later where another delivery from the right led to an opening, but goalkeeper Brandon Petersen parried away.

Chiefs didn’t lose focus despite trailing and came close to levelling with a rasping attempt wide of the area by Mduduzi Shabalala, but it didn’t find target.

Shabalala was in again not long before the break and unleashed another probing effort from the near side, but again missed the back of the net.

The Amakhosi full further behind two minutes in the second half after Adrian Blake came in on the edge of the area following a cutback and drilled in with ease.

Blake got in again ten minutes later and completed his brace when he tapped into an empty net following a first-time delivery from Horemans.

Chiefs decided to look to the substitutes bench at the same time and introduced Ashley Du Preez ahead of Da Silva, before more changes were introduced with Bruce Bvuma, Gaston Sirino, Dillon Solomons, George Matlou, Samkelo Zwane thrown on.

Utrecht continued to show force and made it four in the final three minutes when Militans Jonathans raced onto a through pass to beat a diving Bvuma.

Chiefs looked for a consolation in added time through a header at the near post from Sirino following a corner, but it was parried away as the encounter ended 4-0.
