Mofokeng: The rest was short, but...

Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng has issued an update on his and the squad's readiness for the pre-season tour in Spain with their first game less than 24 hours away.

Abdeslam Ouaddou's men have not wasted any time getting down to business in Spain to begin their preparations for 2025/26.

They landed at the Málaga International Airport on Tuesday and then travelled to Marbella - a coastal city in Spain - where they will be based during their two-week camp.

Mofokeng, who proved to be one of the team's key players last season, expressed his delighted at being back to do what he does best.

"I feel alive," Mofokeng told SuperSportBET.

"Football is back, we're back, so that brings back my life. The rest (break) was short, but then it's work, what can we say? We have to get going."

The 20-year-old may be justified in his assessment that the rest is "short". After all, he missed just two of the side's 28 league matches and made 49 appearances across all competitions last term.

"We finished our first full training session for pre-season. We had a nice small-sided day focusing on some insensitive actions after a very good flush yesterday evening," Pirates' head of performance, Ruan Rust, told the club's media.

"The conditions here are nice and warm, the humidity really setting in, so hydration is paramount for the guys to make sure they acclimatise as quickly as possible.

"We had a double session and a nice recovery session. So, we have had a really good start to the camp, and we look forward to having a good two weeks out here."

The MTN8 defending champions will put their preparations to the test against English lower-tier side Bolton Wanderers on Friday  at 11:00 (SA time).
