Uthongathi FC suspend coach Johnny Ferreira

Reasons for the suspension are not yet known, but according to sources the club management was not happy with some of the decisions in the 2-1 home loss to Swallows FC on Saturday.

The result enabled the chasing pack of the likes of University of Pretoria and Ajax Cape Town to close the gap to two points and four points respectively.

"Oh no, they told us that they are putting him on suspension," one insider tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"They didn't give any reasons. I don't know why, because also the coach doesn't know why you know. The coach requested it in black and white and they didn't give it to him yet. It happened straight after the Swallows game."

According to the source, the club might have shot themselves in the foot with their action as some of the players have been taken aback by the decision.

"[Sigh] Eish, no some of the players are not happy, a lot of them are not happy, but what can they do, they are only players hey. Some of us feel that it shouldn't have happened now.

"If they had plans to let him go they had to do it in the new round you know, because the upcoming game is very important, so ja.

"It caught us by surprise, we were shocked, all of us were shocked. There was no light the whole week like okay something is about to happen... nothing like that."

Contacted for comment, Uthongathi CEO Jackson Marcus confirmed the news.

"Ja look, I wouldn't disclose anything now because I didn't send anything for him officially. Only then will I be able to comment, but at the moment I haven't done anything with him in terms of... it's just one game [the suspension]," he says.

"The coming game is the last game so he is going to resume with the team for the preparation for Ajax. We have a game with JDR, and then the coach will come back after that game. He knows everything ja.

"Like I said I'm not going to talk about that now, but your information is right, he is serving a suspension and he's coming back in January. The assistant coach Pitso Dladla is in charge now."

Contacted for comment, Ferreira promised to return our call later.
