Ex-CT Spurs coach: NFD protests are ridiculous

A former Cape Town Spurs coach believes the Premier Soccer League should take responsibility for the current issues in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

On Tuesday, the PSL Disciplinary Committee cleared Durban City of any wrongdoing in the case involving JDR Stars.

This case revolves around the eligibility of City player Saziso Magawana, who is accused by both JDR Stars and Spurs of being improperly registered after his transfer from Marumo Gallants to the champions-in-waiting.

The Urban Warriors postponed their protest to Wednesday (21 May) as they aimed to present additional evidence.

"This is something I can never understand," Dos Santos tells KickOff.com.

"We are supposed to have the best-run football league in Africa, but every single season, come the end of the campaign, there's always an issue with a player not being properly registered.

"It's detrimental to the league.

"Now they want Durban City to lose points, which is absurd. This year, the league was very competitive, with five or six teams challenging for the title. It was an exciting season, but then we face this? It leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

"The people at the top are to blame. How is it possible that it took so long to discover that there's a player at Durban City who isn't properly registered? If he is not registered correctly, then who registered him to play in the first place? It's the League's responsibility, right? This is disappointing.

"When I visit the PSL offices and submit a player’s documents from my club, they should be verifying the date of birth, ID number, or whether the player is a foreigner or local. They need to have all the necessary information for the clearance.

"If they find something is missing, they should call Durban City and inform them, saying: 'Hey, there's a document that's not in order. Unfortunately, we can't register your player or issue him a PSL card'.

"But instead, everyone just waits. Why do they take so long? They need to act immediately, not stall the process," says Dos Santos, while noting the seriousness of the matter.

"Cape Town Spurs are now facing relegation and are hoping that the claims being made are correct so they can avoid dropping down a division."
