Truter: Coaching Sundowns not easy

Brandon Truter feels fellow coach Rulani Mokwena deserves credit for steering the Mamelodi Sundowns in the right direction.

On Tuesday the Premier Soccer League giants humiliated Motsepe Foundation Championship side La Masia by beating them 6-1 at Dobsonville Stadium in the Nebank Cup's last 32.

Truter believes Mokwena was the mastermind behind Sundowns' win and does not agree with the notion that everyone can coach the star-studded club.

"No, it's not everybody who can coach Sundowns, you see the beautiful football that they are playing there, everybody sees the lot of results they are getting and assumes it's easy when in fact, there is a lot of work behind the scenes," Truter tells KickOff.

"But it's a lot of sleepless nights, it is a lot of sweat and blood, it is a lot of mental issues, psychological, physical preparations that go into these things.

"There is a lot of scouting, there is a lot of money being spent, so it's not easy to coach that team. Man management of players of that calibre takes another level of management. So, whoever assumes it is easy to coach Mamelodi Sundowns is mistaken.

"Yes, everyone would love to be associated with the winners, but Sundowns took years to build and had some very good coaches who started the process. And it's an ongoing process with the signings that they have made. They want to achieve," added the coach.

"It's been the building up of situations and things, the tearing down and building again, and now they are enjoying the results. Everybody should take a leaf out of Mokwena and Sundowns' book to see what they've done to succeed.

"To copy it, you don't need a lot of money or a big budget, but you have to look at Stellenbosch at the moment. When you start winning things and getting results like that what will your naysayers and your critics are going to say?

"So to me, Rulani he is one of the best coaches in our league."
