Pirates set to lose another coach

Orlando Pirates are set to lose yet another member of their technical team, who is earmarked to join the club's former head coach Jose Riveiro at his new club in North Africa.

Riveiro bid Pirates fans a fond farewell at Orlando Stadium as the side dismantled Golden Arrows 3-0 in a Betway Premiership fixture on Tuesday.

This was the last match for the Spaniard as coach of the Mighty Buccaneers, with whom he spent just four games shy of three full seasons. 

He is set to travel to Egypt on Wednesday, where is expected to be announced as new head coach of Al Ahly before the end of this week.

All indications point towards his former assistant at Bucs, Sergio Almenara, joining him as part of his technical team at his new employers. 

Almenara left Pirates in June 2024 owing to personal reasons.

“Carlos Nodar Paz is also leaving Pirates to join Riveiro in his new team. Sergio is also returning to Africa to work with Riveiro in his new club,” said the source close to the former Buccaneers coach.

Meanwhile, performance analyst Rayaan Jacobs, often seen on the bench analysing game situations, is also set to link up with the 49-year-old in Egypt.  

Riveiro is also planning to bring a former Juventus goalkeeper coach to become part of his technical team.

The Vigo-born tactician is expected to be the highest-paid coach. on the continent with his latest deal.
