Thorns for Downs returnee with hands on trimmer scissors

Miguel Cardoso’s request for a smaller squad for the new season will have dire consequences for Sifiso Ngobeni following his return from his latest loan.

Ngobeni has been away on loan at AmaZulu since January 2024, but Usuthu have since decided to let go.

In his first six months with Usuthu during the second half of the 2023/24 season, he only played twice.

However, with Sundowns widening their options with the addition of Asekho Tiwani, it then paved the way for Ngobeni to remain at Usuthu.

After initially confirming that Ngobeni had made a permanent transfer to the club, AmaZulu have now shifted goalposts by stating that he has returned to his parent club Sundowns.

This is what has created confusion about Ngobeni’s status.

If still under contract at Sundowns then he will return having struggled for regular minutes at AmaZulu where he only started three games last season.

That return to Chloorkop will mean the five-year deal he signed when joining in July 2021 is still valid.

The 28-year-old was notably announced on that long term contract but has found little joy on the field at Sundowns.

The Brazilians have Divine Lunga, Aubrey Modiba, Asekho Tiwani, and Terrence Mashego all lining up at left-back.
