SA stars with most Premier League appearances

With Lyle Foster having equalled Eric Tinkler's appearance record in the Premier League, here’s a look at South African players who have featured the most in England’s top flight.

Foster’s appearance for Burnley against Tottenham Hotspur this past weekend was his 25th in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old equalled Tinkler’s tally of 25 Premier League appearances for Barnsley.

According to Transfermarkt, only nine South Africans have played more Premier League matches than Foster and Tinkler’s 25 games.

Steven Pienaar holds the record for the most Premier League appearances by a South African, with 214 matches across three clubs: Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Sunderland.

The former midfielder is notably the only South African to have registered more than 200 appearances in the division.

Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe is second with 197 games for the club.

Former centre-backs Mark Fish and Aaron Mokoena are tied on 124 Premier League appearances each.

Retired Bafana Bafana strikers Shaun Bartlett and Benni McCarthy are the only other South Africans to have reached over 100 matches in the Premier League.

Bartlett made 123 appearances for Charlton Athletic, while McCarthy featured 120 times for Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United.
