Sundowns struggling with CAF match venue

With a few days left before they meet with TP Mazembe, Mamelodi Sundowns have not yet secured a venue for the CAF Champions League fixture on Saturday.

Sundowns are set to host Mazembe in the return fixture after losing 1-0 during the first-round match played at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi in December last year.

The Brazilians have already qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Nouadhibou 2-0 in Mauritania on Saturday.

Masandawana was set to host TP Mazembe at the Loftus Versfeld stadium on Saturday but could not secure the venue due to a rugby match at the same venue this coming weekend.

Efforts to move the fixture to FNB stadium on Saturday have hit a snag after the venue was also booked for the DStv premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows on Saturday.

Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has confirmed that his club has not yet secured a venue for their Champions League match against TP Mazembe in South Africa on Saturday.

"Mazembe (match) I am not sure at the moment. There is work that is being done behind the scenes. Bra Stan and Bra Trot are here. It's a good question because they deal with that," said Mokwena during a press conference after their DStv premiership matches against Amazulu in Pretoria on Tuesday.

"They have briefed me but nothing conclusive as yet. I think the club will announce once things are confirmed," he added.

Unconfirmed reports have revealed that Sundowns might move their CAF Champions League fixture against TP Mazembe to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Saturday.
