New club for Downs midfielder

Erwin Saavedra's departure from Mamelodi Sundowns has been confirmed following a frustrating stay at Chloorkop.

Saavedra's contract at Sundowns runs up at the end of June and based on the order of events at the club, the 27-year-old has found a way back to his former club Bolivar La Paz FC back home in Bolivia.

Such has been the trail of misfortunes for Saavedra that he never got to genuinely to prove his worth at Sundowns since signing two years ago.

Saavedra underwent his rehabilitation back home in Bolivia following the injury that has troubled him through his time with The Brazilians.

Since joining Sundowns at the beginning of 2022 from Bolivar La Paz FC in the Bolivian Primera Division where he had played regular in the four years, Saavedra has had no joy at Sundowns.

He has lost his place in the national team after playing just 10 games in almost two years at Sundowns and has totalled a mere 265 minutes from those appearances.

Saavedra last played on April and wasn't registered for the current season.

The issue of the foreign quota at Sundowns means the five players now registered are Marcelo Allende (Chile), Junior Mendieta (Argentina), Lucas Ribeiro Costa (Brazil), Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil, and Argentine new signing Matias Esquivel with Abubeker Nasir (Ethiopia) now injured.
