Latino exit looming at Downs

The off-season reshuffle at Mamelodi Sundowns is pointing towards movement for their Latinos with work already underway in planning ahead for next season.

Sundowns have Arthur Sales and Lucas Ribeiro Costa (both Brazil), Matias Esquivel and Lucas Suarez (Argentina), and Marcelo Allende (Chile) taking up all foreign spaces at the club.

Ribeiro Costa and Allende have excelled, Sales is growing into influence, but there are concerns with Esquivel, while Suarez is only on loan.

Esquivel has only played thrice since returning from his loan spell at Argentine club CA Talleres, where he spent five months.

The 26-year-old initially joined Sundowns from another Argentine club, Atletico Lanus, at the beginning of last year in big money transfer.

During his first stint at Chloorkop, he scored twice in 13 appearances before going back home on loan.

There are now considerations being made to find a solution to his situation with Miguel Cardoso in need of foreign spots to bring in signings of his choice.

Names are already floating with one player that Cardoso previously worked with already being mentioned.

However, working out an exit for Esquivel will come with recouping part of what was spent to bring him in and the fact that he still has a running contract.

The Argentine hasn’t settled in South Africa but will be bargaining on adding the FIFA Club World Cup to his CV next month before leaving.

With a return home to Argentina likely, it means Esquivel will do in time for the Torneo Clausura to run from July 17 until December 14.
