De Reuck: I was an important figure at Downs, but...

Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rushine De Reuck has opened up about the challenges he faced during his time at the club, following his recent move to Tanzanian giants Simba SC.

The 29-year-old defender-come-midfielder penned a one deal with the Tanzanian Premier League powerhouse, with an option to extend.

De Reuck's switch to the East African outfit sees him reunite with his former coach at the now-defunct Maritzburg United, Fadlu Davids, who currently serves as head coach at Simba.

Having joined Sundowns in 2021 from the Team of Choice, De Reuck found himself in fierce competition for a starting spot in a star-studded squad.

Despite struggling with injuries and limited game time, he remained part of a highly successful team that went on to win several domestic trophies during his stay at Chloorkop.

Now, with a fresh start at Simba, De Reuck, who looks set to reignite his career under familiar leadership, has explained what went wrong at Sundowns.

"I played four, or you can say five seasons at Sundowns, it was a good experience for me," De Rueck said on Simba SC YouTube Channel.
"When I joined, I played many important games, and I was an important figure in the team for about two and a half years until I got an injury, which slowed down my progress.
"And then the players who were playing at the time when I was out were doing well, so I found it a bit difficult to break into the line-up again.
"But there were a lot of other things that happened, things that I don’t really want to disclose. For me, it’s in the past; it’s a new chapter for me now to focus on another opportunity and show my quality," he added.
"I am someone who does not speak too much, and if you look at me, you may think I do not believe in myself, but I really do. I am someone who can compete at the highest level."
