The Brazilians were drawn into a tough Group F alongside German giants Borussia Dortmund, Brazilian powerhouse Fluminense, and South Korea’s Ulsan HD.
Sundowns showed great promise early in the tournament, briefly topping the group after the first round of matches. They opened their campaign with a solid performance, securing a crucial win over Ulsan.
However, a narrow defeat to Dortmund and a draw with Fluminense ultimately saw them finish third in the group, missing out on qualification to the knockout stages.
Throughout the tournament, Sundowns demonstrated their trademark resilience and attacking intent. Known for their fluid style and fearless approach, the team earned respect on the world stage.
Mokoena, a key figure in the midfield, was happy to participate in the tournament despite the disappointment of not progressing.
