Mayo, who is the son of former Bafana Bafana star Patrick Mayo, joined the SuperSport United development in 2015 from Chippa United. Mayo was at SuperSport United until leaving in 2018 to join Royal Eagles and later Richards Bay, then Cape Town City, and as they say, the rest was history.
Mayo is among a plethora of talent that was developed by the Tshwane outfit, which included the likes of Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns vice-captain Ronwen Williams, Kermit Erasmus and Teboho Mokoena.
"It pains me to see the club that I grew up in being ended like this, partly, we understand," Mayo wrote on the social media platform Instagram.
"I just want to thank the CEO, Mr Stanley Matthews, for believing in my talent and nurturing it.
"I spent 5 years at the club to be where I am today is because of SuperSport Untied.
"I also would like to thank the coaches I’ve worked with during my time, Coach Kwanele Kopo, Coach Ricardo Katza, Coach Godfrey, Coach Junior, and the technical staff who were part of my stay at the club.
"The aunties that were there made sure of everything was taken care of, and Bianca, even the physios Bra B, Razo and Bra Collins.
"To the drivers that had sleepless nights because of us in the academy, I can’t express how I feel today, but I’m so proud of the SuperSport United family to call myself a product of SuperSport United.
"To the fans of Skeema Matsatsantsa, you always have a special place."
