Nomvethe: I had turned into a laughing stock

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi is not the only one feeling relieved after being crowned the Soweto giants were crowned the 2024/25 Nedbank Cup champions. 

Chiefs defeated rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in a pulsating cup final affair at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Club legend Siyabonga Nomvethe expressed his happiness with this achievement, stating it has brought him peace now that the club he scored goals for by the bucket-loand has finally ended a 10-year drought.

During the celebrations, Nomvethe spoke to SuperSport presenter Lerato Phagu and appeared emotional and very relieved. 

"The boys made us happy today. Things had become too tough with the club struggling to win," Nomvethe said in isiZulu. 

"What they accomplished today was significant for these players. They really worked hard.

"The derby is always challenging. It's never easy, especially since Pirates are competing for the league, while also aiming for the cup.

"It’s great that we won, allowing our supporters to finally be happy. You could see that some supporters were no longer enjoying going out to watch their favourite team losing matches.

"But today, the boys made this day special for everyone. Even I am happy because I had become a laughing stock," revealed an ecstatic 'Bhele', who holds a PSL goalscoring record.
