Nabi’s sleeves to remain rolled up at Chiefs

Nasreddine Nabi will have his gloves on upon the completion of Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season training tour of the Netherlands this week.

Chiefs have so far played four friendly matches in the Northeastern Europe country to date, doing so with a return of just two goals, while conceding seven.

The first goal came from Reeve Frosler in the 2-1 defeat to Dutch lower division club SBV Vitesse Arnhem.

Then, in the next two matches against FC Utrecht and NEC Nijmegen, there were no goals scored.

Chiefs’ second goal in 360 minutes of football came off the boot of development graduate Naledi Hlongwane.

Amakhosi are back in action again on Wednesday (19:00) against FC Twente.

Nabi has rotated his team in these friendly matches with Brandon Petersen starting all four matches.

Team captain Inacio Miguel has started all four matches at the back and naturally selects himself as the leader.

The defence has had Aden McCarthy, Thabiso Monyane, Dillan Solomons, Reeve Frosler, and Nkanyiso Shinga all getting a chance to start.

So far, it appears Monyane will get the nod at right-back with Shinga on the left and McCarthy partnering Miguel in the absence of Rushwin Dortley.

Chiefs still have Given Msimango, Paseka Mako, Bradley Cross, Happy Mashiane, and Kabelo Nkgwesa as defensive options.

The midfield has had Thabo Cele, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Mduduzi Shabalala, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Samkelo Zwane, and Lehlogonolo Matlou all starting so far.

New signing Siphesihle Ndlovu will have a huge shout about starting matches, just like Thulani Mabaso is standing up to raise his name.

Further up the midfield areas, Mfundo Vilakazi, Glody Makabi Lilepo, Gaston Sirino, and Pule Mmodi have started.

Ethan Chislett, Tebogo Potsane, and Manqoba Ozoemena are also options.

Flavio Silva started thrice with little convincing about him to date, while Tashreeq Morris also played once from the first whistle.

Ashley du Preez, Hlongwane, and Wandile Duba provide the other options in the last third.

It is all decisions to make for Nabi ahead of the league season start on August 8 with Chiefs also involved in the CAF Confederation Cup this season.
