Blackout reality for Chiefs discards

The curse that follows being released by Kaizer Chiefs has struck all players that the club has decided not to keep on their books for the new season.

Days have turned into weeks and threatening to go into months without new jobs for all the players released by Chiefs to date.

Amakhosi have chosen not to continue with the services of Ranga Chivaviro, Sabelo Radebe, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Edmilson Dove, Edson Castillo, and Bongani Sam.

Chivaviro couldn’t get into double figures on the scoring charts through the two years that he spent at the club, which explains why his release came as no shock.

The 32-year-old must now face the unfortunate reality of taking a salary cut on his next move.

He is yet to reach any agreement with his next employers.

Radebe needs a club where he will play after being released straight after returning from an unsuccessful loan at Richards Bay FC.

Little went Mdantsane’s way in the two years that he reported to Naturena and now needs a fresh challenge after his loan at Richards Bay turned into a failure.

Mozambican international Dove has options but back home but is counting on getting better offers after the comforts of his best earnings in the three years that he was at the Soweto giants.

The 30-year-old has had challenges with injuries and so will only get a short-term deal for his next contract.

His former club Uniao Desportivo do Songo has stamped interest, while Black Bulls Maputo could be an option if what he is bargaining on doesn’t happen.

For Castillo, it is the same.

He has options back home in Venezuela but is giving priority to remaining in Africa, where his earnings drop from what he was on at Chiefs will not be severe.

The 31-year-old has only played 64 minutes since returning from his fractured fibula injury in March.

Sam is in a worse situation having not played football since December 2023.

His last appearance was at Moroka Swallows and since then went back to parent club Orlando Pirates and then moved to the Glamour Boys.

Just like all other players released by Chiefs, he is still without a new employer.
