Impressive Blom praised following key performance role in Soweto derby victory

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has praised the importance of midfielder Njabulo Blom and his contribution in a vital win over rivals Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership clash on Saturday.

Blom was one of the standout performers as Chiefs recorded a fourth consecutive victory over Orlando Pirates and handed the Buccaneers their first defeat in four matches.

The 23-year-old was one of several Chiefs' stars who walked off the pitch to a resounding applause at the FNB Stadium. Zwane has explained the midfielder's role in nullifying the Pirates' attacking force.

"On Blom, we had to make sure that we don't allow them any space and time on the ball. You know a player like Kermit [Erasmus], he's a nippy player. He's very clever. He sees those moments and he's a good one versus one. He can shoot with both legs. So he's a dangerous striker," explained Zwane.

"At some point, they were duplicating their runs, which was in our favour - our guys dealt with that much better. So Njabulo [Blom] was always there for those moments, especially the second ball or to put [pressure] on whoever received the ball centrally, whether it's Lepasa, or whether it's Kermit."

Chiefs' next and final clash for the year will be the Carling Black Label Cup which will include AmaZulu, Mamelodi Sundowns and the Buccaneers

Pirates will be looking for a better outcome when they take on AmaZulu on Saturday in the 2022/23 MTN8 Final to be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
