Zwane hails 'special' Maart strike

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane hailed the 'special' goal scored by midfielder Yusuf Maart that sealed a memorable 1-0 win over rivals Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Amakhosi recorded their fourth consecutive Soweto derby win over rivals Orlando Pirates at a sold-out FNB Stadium.

Maart scored a contender for one of the best goals in the modern DStv Premiership era with an extraordinary long-range strike from beyond the half-way line to put Amakhosi ahead with just under 20 minutes to play.

"It was a special goal for us," Zwane said post-match.

"It was Yusuf's first [Soweto] derby and the first derby for me as a coach."

"So to win the derby with such a special goal like this tells you about the tactical awareness of the player. Not many players will see that the keeper is off the line.

"He took a chance and it benefitted us. We've got the three points and credit to him, as well as the rest of the guys. I think they all put in a good shift."

The strike was Maart's first goal since signing for Chiefs from Sekhukhune United over the transfer window.

Chiefs will now turn their attention to the upcoming Carling Black Label Cup which will feature AmaZulu, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

For the Buccaneers, the loss takes them down to fifth position with just one win in their last five league matches .Riveiro will hope for better fortune when his side takes on AmaZulu on 5 November in the 2022/23 MTN 8 Final.
