Chiefs’ incoming signing: ‘He was sold for USD300 000’

Further information has been gathered on Kaizer Chiefs' incoming signing Glody Makabi Lilepo.

Lilepo will replace fellow Congolese Christian Saile Basomboli after moving from Valenciennes, who were relegated from the French Ligue 2 last season and are now in the bottom half of the French Third Division.

The 27-year-old has agreed on a contract that will be an improvement from what he was earning in the French Third Division.

"I know the boy because while he was here in Kinshasa, he was staying in an area called Limete and I was in nearby Mosiala, where I still reside," discloses retired Congolese attacker Lelo Mbele, who played for Zulu Royals and Orlando Pirates as a teenager.

Mbele spoke to KickOff.com from his base in Kinshasa, where he has been working as the team manager at AS Vita Club until recently.

Lilepo played for AS Vita.

"So, I know the boy very well from his time at FC Renaissance and AS Vita, a club that I played for and then became team manager (of) in recent years.

"What would be of interest to you is that I did the negotiations when he moved from AS Vita to Sudanese club Al-Hilal when Florent Ibenge just arrived there.

"I did the negotiations on behalf of AS Vita because I played for Al Hilal before, so they know me, and I can confirm that he was sold for USD300 000 (approx. R5,5 million).

"Remember, I was team manager at AS Vita at that time, so this was just part of my duties.

"Al-Hilal is by far the best team in Sudan and so they can afford.

"Just the other day, the boy told me about the interest from South Africa and I'm glad Chiefs will have a good player.

"He is most effective playing from either wing and his movement means he gets into the box frequently, which is why he was the top scorer here before he left for Sudan.

"This boy has pace and power and will be suited to the South African game," says Mbele.
