Pirates in tricky travel test

Orlando Pirates' order of fixtures has left Jose Riveiro having to negotiate an awkward list of trips, which will come with having to play at Orlando Stadium only once in 11 matches.

Pirates were in Cairo, Egypt over the weekend for CAF Champions League duties as they overcame Al Ahly to finish top of their group.

Next up for Bucs is a trip to Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg, where they play Royal AM in a Betway Premiership match on Thursday evening.

They will then stay in KwaZulu-Natal for the Nedbank Cup Last 32 encounter against Richards Bay FC at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

From there, it's the Soweto Derby, and while they are fixtured as the home team, the blockbuster tie will be at FNB Stadium on February 1.

The next three will be away to Sekhukhune United (Peter Mokaba Stadium), Mamelodi Sundowns (Loftus Versfeld Stadium), Golden Arrows (Mpumalanga Stadium), and only return to Orlando on February 22 to host Cape Town City.

After that, it will be a stretch of three away games against Marumo Gallants (Free State Toyota Stadium), Chippa United (Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium), and Stellenbosch FC (Athlone Stadium).

With Pirates having last played at Orlando on January 12 in their 2-1 win over CR Belouizdad in the Champions League, it lays down their next nine of the next 11 that they will play since coming up against the Algerians as away games.

Only one of those 11 is at Orlando.

The heavy dose of away games has been necessitated by the fact that Pirates have already played seven league games at home from the 11 played to date.

The Soweto giants are chasing their first league title since the 2011/12 season.
