SA Parliament recognises enormous Teboho Mokoena

Mamelodi Sundowns star Teboho Mokoena has seen his stock rise dramatically over the past year, and this weekend he attained iconic status in the Free State province. Here's a look.

The story

At just the age of 25-years-old, the playmaker has already reached the heights many stars can dream of. On Friday, the Chief Whip of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Mr Seiso Mohai, hosted two events, one was to hand over signed Teboho Mokoena memorabilia to the Free State Legislature and a soccer kit to Vulamasango Secondary School in Bloemfontein.

The Downs baller was a guest of honour as the event was centred around him and his contribution to the development of football in Mangaung.

What does Mokoena owe the pleasure?

"The occasions serve as an acknowledgment of Mr. Mokoena's enormous contribution to soccer in the Free State Province and nationally," a statement on Parliament's official website.

"Mr Mokoena has made an immense contribution to the game. He has played for SuperSport United FC, but since 27 January 2022 has played as a midfielder for Mamelodi Sundowns FC. He is also part of the national team, Bafana Bafana.

"He has since established the Teboho Mokoena Foundation, with the intention of making a sustained contribution to developing soccer in the Free State, with a special focus on developing local soccer teams and schools.

"Mr Mokoena was born in Bethlehem in the Free State on 24 January 1997. He studied at Bodikela Junior Secondary School and his excellent performances secured him a spot at the Harmony Sports Academy. His talent was discovered at school by a teacher, Mr. Charles Molefe, and a coach at Bodikela Junior Secondary School."
