Michael Boxall, SuperSport United to Bongokuhle Hlongwane's captain in United States

New Zealand international Michael Boxall is best remembered for his time at SuperSport United and he is now teammates with South African star Bongokuhle Hlongwane in the United States. Here's a look at what he's been up to since leaving Mzansi!

The story

A fun fact, the 33-year-old is the captain of Minnesota United FC, the side which the Bafana Bafana forward plays for in Major League Soccer.

Many followers of the PSL will surely recall seeing the player in the Matsatsantsa defence between 2015 and 2017.

A real traveller

When he arrived in Pretoria in July 2015, very little was known about the versatile defender as he had joined the side from Australian club, Wellington Phoenix. He spent two seasons in Tshwane, where he made 68 appearances and contributed five goals.

He then joined Minnesota as a free agent in July 2017, becoming a key part of the MLS team as he is now the skipper.

We imagine that it may have been a relief for Hlongwane to see a familiar face upon his January arrival in the city of Saint Paul, although the youngster had not made his breakthrough by the time Boxall left local shores.

Did you know?

The Auckland-born star won back-to-back Nedbank Cup in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons under coach Stuart Baxter.
