Durban City makes Kamatuka decision

Joslin Kamatuka's journey with the newly-promoted Betway Premiership club, Durban City FC, continues.

In an exciting development for Durban City fans, the club has decided to keep Kamatuka for the upcoming season.

This decision reflects the club's confidence in the player, who played a key role in securing automatic promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the top tier.

There were initial concerns about Kamatuka's future after the release of his strike partner, Ruzaig Gamaldien. Rumours circulated that the club was hesitant about the 34-year-old's age. However, they were impressed by Kamatuka's performance in pre-season training, which resembled that of a much younger player.

The Namibian international was nominated for the 2024/2025 Motsepe Foundation Championship Players' Player of the Season, a title ultimately won by Hungry Lions striker Mzomuhle Khanyi.

Kamatuka also finished in second place in the top goalscorer race, trailing behind Khanyi, who has since joined Stellenbosch FC.

"Yes, Kamatuka is no longer going, he is staying and training with the team as we speak. It wouldn't have been easy for the club to release him after he finished in the top three for the Motsepe Foundation Championship Players' Player of the Season and also secured second place in the Golden Boot race", a source told KickOff.

KickOff also contacted the club's head coach Gavin Hunt, who confirmed that Kamatuka was still with the team, before directing further questions to the club's chairman, Farook Kadodia.
