Back to square one for Lorch

With the start of the league season just days away, Thembinkosi Lorch finds himself in an all-too-familiar a situation, this despite a standout showing at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Lorch continues to train alone as a move away from Mamelodi Sundowns faces challenges.

The midfielder, whom the club had deemed surplus to requirements at the start of last season and agreed to loan to Wydad Casablanca, blossomed into a key player for the Moroccan giants, particularly impressing at the Club World Cup.

At the time he had left the Tshwane giants, it had become increasingly clear that he would not play many games under Miguel Cardoso, and he was in need of a new start.

So impressed were Wydad that they are now looking to buy the 32-year-old on a permanent deal. However, his parent club are unwilling to sell unless their asking fee is met.

The unfolding scenario means Lorch finds himself in the same boat he was in before his loan move: somewhat stranded at a club where he is unlikely to be given playing time and in need of minutes elsewhere.

'Nyoso', as he is popularly known, is just one of several players who have not been part of Sundowns’ camp ahead of the start of the season, despite still being under contract.

Khuliso Mudau has reportedly asked to step away from the camp amid talks of a possible move away, while striker Peter Shalulile has returned to Namibia with a potential move to North Africa on the horizon, having decided to leave for a fresh challenge.

Lucas Ribeiro Costa, fresh off a PSL Footballer of the Season achievement, is also expected to depart with heavy interest from Brazil and the Middle East.
