OFFICIAL: 'Down and out' PSL club announce new coach

On the back of their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Cape Town City have announced a head coach as they look to rebuild after also releasing nine players.

The Citizens announced via their social media platforms on Monday morning that Dutch mentor Jan Vreman will be taking over as the new head coach ahead of 2025/26 .

He is a UEFA Pro Licence holder and was in charge of lower division side De Graafschap in the Netherlands last season.

Meanwhile, the coastal city of Cape Town will have no representative in top-flight football next season after Cape Town City failed to win a single match in the relegation/promotion play-offs and ultimately got relegated, with Orbit City coming up to the elite division.

City, then under Diogo Peral, collected just one victory of their last five Betway Premiership matches and just seven of their 28 in the regular season.

Consequently, they went into the play-offs against the Motsepe Foundation Championship duo of Casric Stars and Orbit College, where they failed to win a single one of their four fixtures.

In their final dead-rubber encounter of the play-offs, they drew 1-1 against Casric Stars, who have also been denied promotion at their second time of asking.

Vreman's immediate mandate will be to get the side back up to the topflight after attempts to purchase a status failed, according to reports.
