Trott Moloto backs Percy Tau for Bafana Bafana step-up

Tau has risen to priominence since returning to The Brazilains first team, after a loan spell at First Division side Witbank Spurs at the start of the 2016/17 season.

He has thus far already managed seven goals and eight assists in just 13 starts in all competitions, including a stunning solo goal at the FIFA Club World Cup in December.

Moloto, who served as Bafana mentor between 1998 and 2000, feels the 22-year-old is ready to step up to the international stage and says the new coach – whoever it might be – should assess him in the next camp.

"He's a youngster and he's got enough potential to be selected for the national team," Moloto says in the latest issue of KICK OFF Magazine – On sale now!

"The new coach will have to bring him in and have a close look at him."

Moloto, albeit praiseful of Tau's ability, admits that the Witbank-born speedster can still improve in leaps and bounds, particularly in front of goal.

"A left-footed player, naturally, has something extra and something special to give," he adds. "Percy has plenty of that.

"What pleases me is that he's got an eye for goal as well, but he could still improve om his number of goals. He should be scoring more.

"But if he is able to make an impression for Sundowns on the continent, and go to the FIFA Club World Cup and earn applause, what else about him do you want to doubt?

"He needs to be given a chance in the national team to showcase his talent."
