Bafana backed to overcome tiny nation

Despite having had a slow start to the tournament, Bafana Bafana have been backed to go all the way and claim the honours as 2025 COSAFA Cup champions.

Bafana take on Group D winners Comoros in the semi-finals on Friday.

A 0-0 draw against Mauritius, shocking as it was for the quality assembled by Veli Khumalo, was enough to see the side through from Group A.

They had lost 1-0 to Mozambique in the opening match, before redeeming themselves with a 2-0 success against neighbours Zimbabwe.

They will now face Comoros, who are the third smallest African country by area with a population of less than 1 million.

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Hleza Mofedi is this year's COSAFA Cup ambassador, and has revealed what South Africa's downfall so far has been.

"They didn't have a perfect start, but now it seems they are improving game by game," Mofedi tells KickOff.com.

"I believe now, going into the third game, which is the semi-final, they will fix their mistakes and get the combinations right.

"They must just fix their substitutions and tactics. They are playing the right players; it's just their organization that I'm not impressed with.

"But besides all that, they are going to the final and stand a very good chance of going all the way," he continues.

Mofedi says Bafana reaching the semi-finals could improve attendance, which has been a sore point in the tournament.

"Our people are yet to realise the importance of the COSAFA Cup, but I believe tomorrow we will see improved support from the public since South Africa are now in the semi-finals."

Kick-off is at 18:00.
