'I could be solving Chiefs' goalscoring crisis'

In this latest edition of In The Spotlight, KickOff puts former Kaizer Chiefs striker and Zambia international Collins Mbesuma in the limelight.

Mbesuma, a legendary striker who still holds the record for scoring the highest number of goals in the PSL, claims he could have easily solved the goalscoring crisis at Chiefs if age were on his side.

Growing up, who was your role model?

"It's Ronaldo, the one from Brazil. Few strikers, or number nines, know how to dribble and finish well in front of goal."

Is he the player you based your game on?

"Yes, he is."

Your favourite club in South Africa?

"Kaizer Chiefs."

Your best friend in football and why?

"Tinashe Nengomasha. We used to push each other in training, and we travelled to the gym together."

If you could join any club right now as a player...

"A PSL club? Of course, Khosi 4 Life. At my peak, I could be solving their current goalscoring crisis. I’m a striker's coach, you know, so I'm available to help any team."

Is there anything you dislike about football?

"Traveling to West Africa for the CAF Champions League. They treat you poorly, which makes it hard to focus."

Which referee gave you a tough time in the PSL?

"I forgot his name. He was a short black guy. In one game, we exchanged words, and from that moment on, we were enemies."

Lastly, we hear you have an annual sports tournament in Zambia.

"Yes, this time of year, I'm involved in organizing sports tournaments for both girls and boys in Zambian schools."
