My Locker Room Secrets: Hilton Jordaan

In the latest edition of My Locker Room Secrets, KickOff goes back in time with ex-Jomo Cosmos center-back Hilton Jordaan, who dishes all the dirt on his former teammates.

The retired defender reveals how things used to be in the Ezenkosi dressing room during his stay there.

Who's locker room are we in today?

"The Jomo Cosmos dressing room. There were funny stories there, my friend - lots of funny stories."

Who was always late?

"There were not that many people who were latecomers at Jomo Cosmos those days, but the one latecomer I'd always remember is Sipho Sephadi.

"There were a couple of others also, but I just can't recall who they were. Sephadi wasn't drinking, but he had this problem of waking up late. I think he slept his life away.

"Most of us used to be on time. Jomo Sono was strict when it came to time."

Any interesting ritual before you played?

"I don't know about the others, but my ritual was to get into the change room first before others did so that I could get it over and done with the muti session.

"I was always the first one in, my teammates used to laugh at me. Lebohang Morula used to laugh at me. Jomo used to say to me, 'You like muti, hey? You are always the first one to come in'."

Who was the jokester?

"Morula, Sipho Sephadi, Tico-Tico Bucuane. They were all funny, and Sibusiso Mhlongo was also funny."

Was it a muti change room?

"Yes, it was a muti change room."

Who was the singer?

"Morula, Collen Tlemo, Andrew Rabutla, and Simon Gopane when he was there.

"I think everybody did his part very well when it was time to sing."

Who was the best-dressed and the worst-dressed?

"Lebo, when he came back from overseas, was always dressed well. He knew what was going on with the latest clothes. Andrew Rabutla also dressed well, and Macbeth Sibaya also.

"And the worst-dressed had to be Patrick Tshisikhawe and Alfred Phiri, the two Alexandra boys. I know they're gonna hate me for this, but yes, they were always in their tracksuits those two. Alfred Phiri is gonna hate me for this!"

Who never showered?

"At Cosmos, everyone showered hey. No one rushed home."

Rate the coach's team talk

"That one has to be Jomo. He was always calm, he never lost his temper. He always said to us, 'Be strong'. He never shouted or got mad or kicked things.

"His instructions about an opposition player was, 'Get hold of him, show him who's boss'.

"If the opposition had a playmaker who was giving us problems, Jomo would say, 'Get hold of him, make sure he doesn't receive the ball'."
