Desperate Chiefs urged to go all out against Spurs

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Benjamin Reed has urged the current squad to do everything in their power to qualify the club for next season's MTN8 with Khosi Nation heartbeats racing faster than normal ahead of the match against Cape Town Spurs.

It is now a matter of hours before the first whistle is blown to not only delay Cape Town Spurs' drop down to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, but to also bring Amakhosi closer to their fate regarding Top Eight qualification.

With it being a last game of the season for both, the DHL Cape Town Stadium will resemble a crime scene come 17:00.

Meanwhile, legendary Reed, who also turned out for Bloemfontein Celtic, has accused whoever is doing the scouting for Chiefs of "sleeping on the job".

"Chiefs need to redeem themselves with a win and finish in the Top Eight," he says, previewing the game with this website.

"You always want to go to the holidays with your pride still intact. Chiefs need nothing less than a win against Spurs. Spurs are already relegated, but they would want to go down with style, and Chiefs wouldn't love not to take part in the MTN8.

"I was not happy with Chiefs' season. I don't even think as a team they also understood what they were doing. A club like Kaizer Chiefs should be fighting for the league title," says Reed.

Furthermore, the soft-spoken former marksman believes the failed negotiations with Nasreddine Nabi prior to the beginning of the season should not be underestimated as a contributing factor to the club's woes this season.

"Chiefs find themselves fighting for a place in the Top Eight because of mediocrity that is in the team. I see a massive exodus of players if Chiefs don't win today. At the moment, the calibre of players that are there at Kaizer Chiefs leaves me with a lot of questions.

"Playing for Kaizer Chiefs is not easy, ask me, I know. It's pressure every day. The supporters will not stop letting you know you are not doing enough.

"Every week, you are playing against opponents whose wish is to wear the very same jersey you are wearing. This current group of players is not built for this type of pressure."
