Big-money clubs continue to circle Saleng after Pirates' transfer stance

Following the recent revelations of interest in Monnapule Saleng from UAE Pro League club Al Nasr it has been established that further follow ups will be made in the next transfer window.

Saleng was identified as a target after his standout performance for Pirates in the 2022/23 season scoring 15 goals (plus 11 assists) in 30 appearances spread across all competitions.

It was Saleng's first season at Pirates having spent the previous campaign away on loan at Swallows FC after being signed from Free State Stars.

The top-drawer numbers that the 25-year-old had playing on the shoulders of the number nine at Pirates mean he is attractive to clubs in the emerging Middle East market that is tempting top footballers from all over the world with big-money offers.

This website has been told that Al Nasr SC showed interest and made preliminary attempts to tempt Pirates with an offer, but The Bucs made it known that they are not willing to sell right now under any circumstances.

Pirates argued that their top performer cannot leave but that has only meant interest is deferred and not abandoned.

However, information reaching this website is that Saleng will be under the microscope in the new season with the Middle East interest still standing should he continue from where he left off last season.

Al Wahda's Pitso Mosimane is aware of Saleng and will take a keen interest if he succeeds in Abu Dhabi and is then able to bring players of his own choice.

Transfermarkt has Saleng's evaluation at 1,2 million euro (approx. R24,5 million) which is a figure that would leave Pirates scratching their heads if put on the table.

Al Nasr have just recently added Portuguese winger Iuri Medeiros from SC Braga signalling their intentions on the transfer market.

The Emirati club have Serbian coach Goran Tufegdzic in charge and are aiming on improving from their disappointing ninth place finish last season (2022/23).

This is money good enough to tempt any club in the DStv Premiership.

In moving to the Middle East, the 25-year-old will be guaranteed of starting with a tax-free package in the region of at least USD700 000 (approx. R12,24 million).

Interestingly, there have been primary talk about the possibility of exploring the MLS market next year should Saleng continue with his fine form on the domestic scene.

However, the plan is for Saleng to continue on the domestic and then be included in the AFCON squad with the hope that once he performs well at the tournament in Ivory Coast early next year then his value will increase and have wider options.
