Man Utd 'ready to make offer' for Maguire replacement

Manchester United are now reportedly preparing an offer to sign the player who will be captain Harry Maguire's replacement at the club.

According to reports in England, United are ready to sell their skipper at the end of this campaign, with the player having endured his worst season at the club in terms of appearances he has made so far.

Despite wearing the armband, the centre-back has fallen behind the likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and even left-back Luke Shaw at times in the defensive pecking order under Erik ten Hag, and started only seven of the 14 Premier League matches he has featured in this campaign.

In January, it was reported that Aston Villa were interested in his services, but his manager was said to be reluctant to allow him to leave mid-season.

It is has since been claimed that the Red Devils have been in search for his replacement as he is expected to leave Old Trafford ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, just four seasons into his six-year contract.

According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes, United have identified FC Barcelona star Andreas Christensen as Maguire's successor, and are willing to make an "irresistible offer" to prise the Dane away from the Camp Nou.

The report claims that the 27-year-old was recommended to the EPL club's recruitment department by Ten Hag himself, and that the Red Devils are prepared to pay up to €70 million (R1.4 billion) for the former Chelsea centre-back.

The Manchester outfit is said to be looking to capitalise on the fact that the Catalan giants need to sell some of their more valuable assets in the next transfer window due to their difficult financial situation.

Christensen's contract at Barca also includes a €500 million (R10 billion) buyout clause, but it is understood that it will have little effect on a possible exit should the LaLiga club receive a suitable offer for his services.
