"Mason Mount has joined Manchester United on a contract running until June 2028, with the option of a further year," a statement on the club's official website reads.
"The 24-year-old midfielder has made 279 club appearances, scoring 58 goals and contributing 53 assists. The Champions League winner was Chelsea's Player of the Year for both the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons. He has 36 caps for England and played a key role in his country's run to the European Championship final in 2021."
Mount himself said of his new adventure: "It's never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I'm joining, and I can't wait to be part of this group's drive to win major trophies. Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn't be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here. I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United."
It is understood that United have paid £55 million (R1.3 billion) up front to sign the England international up front, plus £5 million (R118 million) in add-ons, while the Red Devils have also confirmed that he will wear the No. 7 shirt previously worn by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Eric Cantona.
The move comes off the back of failed negotiations between Mount's entourage and Chelsea over a new deal, with it widely reported that the 24-year-old and the Blues could not nor reach an agreement due to wages.
According to the Daily Mail, he will now earn a lofty £250 000 (R5.9 million) a week at Old Trafford.
Having arrived at Stamford Bridge at the age of six, he now leaves Chelsea having risen through the youth ranks to the first team, making 195 appearances and contributing to 70 goals, and winning three major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League.
