Real Madrid news: Florentino Perez backs Karim Benzema for Ballon d'Or

On Thursday, Los Blancos were crowned champions of Spain for a record-extending 34th time after Benzema's brace inspired the club to a 2-1 win over Villarreal.

Real's surge to the title was largely inspired by the striker's performances this season, with the former France international leading the club's scoring chart with 21 goals for the league campaign.

The 32-year-old's tally is second only to FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi in the overall chart for the LaLiga season, but Perez believes no player has had a better year than the former France international.

"I have not seen any player have as good a year as him."
