Real Madrid saw their unbeaten record in LaLiga come to an end as they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Rayo Vallecano on Monday evening.
Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti made three changes from last week's draw with Girona, with Aurelien Tchouameni, Eder Militao and Marco Asensio recalled to the line-up.
The opening goal would arrive in the opening five minutes when Fran Garcia did well to pick out Santi Omesana with a cross, before the striker volleyed past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
It took a while for Ancelotti's men get going in the first half as they struggled to register a single meaningful effort on target in the opening 20 minutes.
Los Blancos were given a lifeline eight minutes before the halftime break after being awarded a penalty for Garcia's foul on Asensio. Modric stepped up and calmly converted.
Four minutes later, the away side were ahead in the contest when Militao lost his marker and nodded home a corner from Asensio.
However, the sides would go into the break all square after Alvaro Garcia restored parity in the 44th minute with a powerful finish in the box after Los Blancos failed to clear their lines.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first, with Vallecano carving out a chance on 60 minutes when Sergio Camello headed wide of the mark from Garcia's cross.
The hosts got the third goal a few minutes later after being awarded a penalty for Dani Carvajal's handball. Oscar Trejo had the initial spot-kick saved by Courtois before he fired home from the rebound.
Asensio continued to threaten down the left as his superb cross found Rodrygo un-marked at the far post, but the Brazilian directed his effort over the target.
Despite eight minutes of time being added on, Vallecano were able to withstand the pressure from Los Blancos to secure maximum points.
