Simeone set for shock Atletico Madrid exit?

Diego Simeone is reportedly set for a shock exit from Atletico Madrid.

The Argentine tactician is one of the longest-serving active managers in football, having spent the past 12 years with the LaLiga club.

In Simeone's time as manager of Atletico, he has finished in the top four in every full season in Spain, while winning two league titles and reaching two UEFA Champions League finals.

However, this campaign has been a disappointing one for the club so far as they currently sit in fifth position in LaLiga, and limped out of the UCL at the group stage after finishing last in their group.

To make matters worse, there are a number of reported off-field issues too, with Simeone and playmaker Joao Felix's relationship believed to have broken down.

According to El Chiringuito, the head coach has now told the Spanish giants he will leave the club at the end of this campaign, one season before his contract is set to expire.

Per Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, Simeone's strained relationship with Felix has led to the Atletico board attempting to spur fans to be on the Portuguese player's side and "push" the manager out of the Metropolitano.

While the Argentine looks to be on his way out at the end of the campaign, Felix is understood to be closing in on a loan move to Premier League side Chelsea this month, although it is believed there is no option for the Blues to buy the player in that short-term deal, allowing him to return to Atletico under a new manager next season.

It is further reported that the Portugal star will extend his Rojiblancos contract until June 2027 before sealing the six-month switch to London.
