Real Madrid defeated cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid 3-1 to secure a spot in the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Thursday night.
Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti recalled veteran midfield duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, while Stefan Savic and World Cup winner Rodrigo de Paul returned for Atletico.
The game's first meaningful opening fell to Los Blancos on nine minutes when Vinicius Junior combined with Karim Benzema, before seeing his effort superbly blocked by Reinildo.
The home crowed were silenced on 19 minutes when a neat passing move ended with Nahuel Molina picking out Alvaro Morata for the close-range finish against his former side.
Ancelotti's charges looked to find a way back into the contest and went close on 31 minutes when Eder Militao headed wide from Kroos' delightful free-kick.
That proved to be the final clear-cut opening in the half, as neither Real or Atletico had joy in the final third while the hosts saw Ferland Mendy forced off with an injury.
Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak was finally called into action in the 58th minute after producing a fine save to deny Benzema from the edge of the box.
Both coaches looked to their benches in the final 20 minutes, as Memphis Depay and Yannick Carrasco came on for the visitors while Ancelotti withdrew Federico Valverde for Rodrygo.
Los Blancos' change paid off as Rodrygo got the side back on level terms in the 79th minute. The Brazilian weaved his way past a few tackles and calmly slotted home at Oblak's near post.
That goal ultimately sent the game to extra-time and things got off to a rocky start for the visitors, who had Savic sent off for a second bookable offence in the 99th minute.
Los Blancos would go on to take the lead just before the halftime in extra-time, with Marco Asensio's cross finding its way to Benzema, who made no mistake from six-yards out.
Vinicius had the final say on the night after bagging Real's third goal in the 120th minute with a lovely individual effort, which confirmed his side's place in the final four.
