Downs make brave CWC statement ahead of their opener

Mamelodi Sundowns are standing up with bravery about their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup intentions ahead of their opener against Ulsan HD.

Sundowns face the South Korean K League 1 champions at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

By the time French referee Clement Turpin blows his whistle to start the match, it will be midnight in South Africa as Florida’s time zone is six hours behind.

The match against Ulsan is one that The Brazilians will be expected to win with games against Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense coming up on June 21 and 25 respectively.

"Even though we have a couple of youngsters in our team, it is important that we go there and compete and not just to participate," declares Sundowns’ goalkeeper coach Kennedy Mweene.

Mweene is at his second CWC having travelled to Japan as a player in 2016.

"The team has been growing in leaps and bounds.

"With four teams, it gives us a chance as Africa as well even though we are still crying about the number.

"Nevertheless, I think we just have to go and show our case.

"We know that it won’t be easy.

"It is a high-profile tournament, and everyone knows what we are going there to do.

"It won’t be easy, but we have to showcase our talent in South Africa and Africa at large," says Mweene.
