Chelsea punish PSG in Club World Cup final

Chelsea were crowned FIFA Club World Cup champions following an impressive 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening.

The European champions were unchanged from the win over Real Madrid, while Chelsea welcomed back Reece James and Levi Colwill from the team that started against Fluminense.

The Blues missed a golden chance in the seventh minute when Cole Palmer got on the end of a one-touch move in the area and slammed off the side-netting.

Palmer did atone for his midway inside the first spell where he worked of space in the area to get onto Malo Gusto’s pass and arrowed a clinical finish into the bottom-corner.

It was all going the way of the Premier League giants on the half-hour mark as Palmer came short to the area, worked an angle and curled into the same corner to double the lad.

Chelsea’s dominance continued three minutes to halftime when Palmer played a telling through pass to Joao Pedro to race in-behind and scoop the ball over goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The French giants could’ve halved the deficit five minutes after halftime through a first-time shot from the area by Ousmane Dembele, but Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez produced an impressive one-hand save.

With the half settling in, the Blues looked to the bench inside the closing stages and introduced Liam Delap in the place of Pedro.

Delap almost enjoyed a dream entry when he grabbed possession outside the area and forced Donnarumma into a tremendous save.

The off-season signing came close in the final ten minutes after he beat Lucas Beraldo to a long ball to race in on goal, but he was denied by the on-rushing Donnarumma.

PSG were reduced to ten men five minutes later as Joao Neves got his marching orders for pulling Marc Cucurella's hair, which was spotted by VAR.

The Blues marched on to victory nonetheless and became the first team to win the revamped Club World Cup title.
