Salah nets twice as Liverpool climb to second spot

Liverpool got back to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Brentford at Anfield on Sunday evening.

Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate and Ryan Gravenberch didn't feature with Alexis Mac Allister suspended for the Reds, who looked to return to winning ways.

Egyptian super star Mohamed Salah steered the Reds in front when he combined with Darwin Nunez and applied a deft finish before the end of the first half.

Liverpool were on the front foot again near the end of the opening period as Coady Gakpo threatened a second with smart attempt but missed target.

The second did arrive a quarter hour in the second half after Salah latched onto a cutback by Konstantinos Tsimikas and headed in to leave the Bees on the back foot.

Portuguese international Diogo Jota got the Reds over the line as more good work from Tsimikas saw the versatile player off-load for the former to find the net.

Manager Jurgen Klopp introduced two changes with time running out as Luis Diaz replaced the self-same Jota and Gakpo withdrawn for Harvey Elliott.

Brentford did fancy their chances before the end of the tie through a smart effort from Bryan Mbuemo following a corner-kick, but the Reds held their nerves.

The lead wasn't under no threat for the Reds though who snatched all the points to go into third spot on the league standings.
