Liverpool 'identify' Isak alternative if EPL record transfer fails

Liverpool have reportedly identified an alternative target should their pursuit for Alexander Isak collapse once again.

The Swedish striker has been at the centre of a drawn-out transfer saga this window, with the 25-year-old understood to be pushing for a move to Anfield in the final week of business.

Having already smashed the English top-flight transfer record by signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for €125 million (R2.5 billion), the Reds then tabled a bid of around £110 million (R2.6 billion) for Isak, which would have broken the record for a second time within weeks.

Since then, however, the 20-time English champions have not returned with an improved offer, and it remains unclear whether Newcastle United are willing to part ways with their star forward. Liverpool, though, are not solely fixated on the Swede, with Real Madrid winger Rodrygo emerging as a leading alternative.

The Brazilian has seen his playing time reduced under Xabi Alonso and is believed to be open to a move in the final days of the transfer window. According to Belgian transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri, Rodrygo’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, has held discussions with Liverpool, who are reportedly willing to explore a €100 million (R2 billion) deal in an effort to bolster their attack before deadline day.

While Isak is a striker and Rodrygo a winger, the Reds’ recent sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich has left them in need of reinforcements across the frontline.
