German Bundesliga wrap: Borussia Dortmund show Schalke no mercy

Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Schalke

Borussia Dortmund were in a rampant mood after netting four past Schalke in the Revierderby as the Bundesliga resumed on Saturday afternoon.

Despite not playing for a couple months, Dortmund were fluid in the attack and took a 2-0 first-half lead through Erling Haaland and Raphaël Guerreiro.

Thorgan Hazard bagged the third goal shortly after the break before Guerreiro completed the scoring with his second on the day.

The win sees Dortmund move to within one point of league leaders Bayern Munich, who are only in action on Sunday evening.

RB Leipzig 1-1 Freiburg

RB Leipzig's title hopes took a knock after dropping points at home to Freiburg on Saturday afternoon.

Manuel Gulde opened the scoring for the visitors after 34 minutes with his first Bundesliga goal of the season.

Leipzig secured the equaliser thanks to Yusuf Poulsen's 77th minute strike, which leaves the hosts in third spot.

Hoffenheim 0-3 Hertha Berlin

Hertha Berlin enjoyed a good day out at the PreZero Arena after registering a 3-0 win over Hoffenheim.

After scoreless first half, the visitors raced into the lead through Kevin Akpoguma's 58th minute own goal before Vedad Ibisevic and Matheus Cunha rounded off the scoring.

Fortuna Dusseldorf 0-0 Paderborn

It was honours even at the Merkur Spiel-Arena, where Fortuna Dusseldorf and Paderborn played to a goalless draw on Saturday afternoon.

Paderborn remain rooted to the foot of the standings, six points adrift of safety.

Augsburg 1-2 Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg moved into the European places after snatching a 2-1 victory away to Augsburg on Saturday afternoon.

The game seemed destined for a draw after Augsburg's Tin Jedvaj cancelled out Renato Steffen's earlier strike.

However, Wolfsburg had the final say when Daniel Ginczek popped up with the winning goal in the first minute of stoppage time.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-3 Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach took advantage of RB Leipzig's slip-up to move into third spot with a 3-1 triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt

Alassane Pléa, Marcus Thuram and Rami Bensebaini were on target for the visitors, while Andre Silva netted for the hosts' ony goal.
