America gets Castro's taste of his Downs and Chiefs fire

Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Leonardo Castro has continued his goal-scoring form at his current club, Greenville Triumph SC, in the USL League One.

The Colombian striker joined the American third-tier side in March 2023, nearly a year after leaving Kaizer Chiefs in 2022.

Before moving to the United States, Castro spent over seven years in South Africa, where he left a lasting mark in the Premier Soccer League.

He first arrived at Sundowns in 2015, where he played a key role in their 2016 CAF Champions League triumph, before joining Chiefs in 2018. During his time in SA, Castro scored more than 30 goals combined for both the Tshwane giants and the Glamour Boys.

The 36-year-old experienced forward has already made a strong impact at Triumph, notching seven goals and three assists in just 14 appearances this season.

Despite his age, Castro continues to prove he still has sharp instincts in front of goal. His latest strike came on June 22 in a 3-1 home victory over Chattanooga Red Wolves.

Castro’s contributions have helped Triumph SC climb to ninth place in the 14-team league table after 14 games.
