Riveiro 'denied priority' at Al Ahly

Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is reportedly facing early hurdles at the Egyptian giants over the formation of his preferred technical team.

Riveiro bid farewell to the Buccaneers last Tuesday after guiding them to a commanding 3-0 victory over Golden Arrows in a Betway Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium.

The win marked the end of his successful tenure with the Soweto giants, having won five cup competition trophies in three seasons.

The 49-year-old coach is said to have agreed to a two-year deal to take over at Al Ahly, replacing experienced Swiss manager Marcel Koller.

Nonetheless, while an official announcement is still pending, Riveiro is reportedly to be finalizing the makeup of his new backroom staff.

Reports indicate that Riveiro is eager to bring along his trusted assistant, Carlos Nodar Paz, who played a dual role at Pirates as a physical trainer and assistant coach.

Paz and analyst Rayaan Jacobs appears to be on his way out of the South African powerhouse, potentially paving the way for a reunion with Riveiro in Egypt.

However, according to Ahlynews.com, Al Ahly's board members prefer a more locally influenced technical team. Reports suggest the club is pushing for the inclusion of two Egyptian coaches, Islam Gamal, currently a fitness coach at Pyramids FC.

More so, it is said that the club want to keep Emad El-Nahhas, who is serving as the Red Devils interim coach, along with his assistant Mohamed Shawky.

This internal push from Al Ahly’s management could dent Riveiro’s plans to appoint his preferred team, including Nodar Paz. Riveiro’s official unveiling as Al Ahly's new head coach is expected to take place in the coming days.
