Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Cassius Mailula has officially made his final decision regarding his future with Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club.
The talented South African striker, who joined the Red Castle on loan in August 2024 under the guidance of coach Rulani Mokwena, has now confirmed his departure from the club.
Mailula was loaned to Wydad from Major League Soccer side Toronto FC, the club he signed for in July 2023, after a standout campaign with the Brazilians.
Despite having seemingly lived up to expectations at the club, Mailula's time in Morocco has now come to an end as he looks ahead to the next chapter in his career.
Mailula released a statement on Monday confirming his departure from Wydad.
"It is with a heavy heart that I write this message, as I want to let you all know that I will not be continuing with the team for the upcoming season," Mailula wrote on his Instagram page.
"My time with Wydad has been an incredibly special and rewarding experience, and I will forever be grateful for it. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you.
"From the security staff to the technical team, to my teammates-your kindness and support has meant the world to me. You all hold a very special place in my heart.
"I must also thank the President for giving me the incredible opportunity to represent Wydad, and Coach Rulani for his unwavering belief in me," he added.
"Without his trust, I wouldn't be the player I am today. I wish the club, the fans, and everyone involved nothing but continued success in the upcoming season and beyond."
The 24-year-old ended the 2024/25 campaign with at least five assists and a goal in 14 league appearances. In January, he was named the club's Player of the Month for his standout performances.
Wydad’s management was reportedly eager to secure a permanent deal, impressed by Mailula’s impact. However, it appears their efforts were unsuccessful.
The Limpopo-born attacker will now return to his parent club, Toronto FC. It remains to be seen whether the MLS side will integrate him into their squad or opt to loan him out again.
