Reports: Wydad closing in on Lorch signing

According to reports from across the continent, Wydad Athletic Club are closing in on Thembinkosi Lorch from Mamelodi Sundowns.

After being left out of coach Miguel Cardoso’s plans for the new season, it was claimed that Sundowns reportedly opted to sell Lorch permanently rather than send him out on another loan.

The South African star spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign out on loan with the Moroccan giants and made a strong impression in just six months.

Lorch stood out during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States and played a crucial role in helping the Red Castle secure a third-place finish in the Botola Pro League table finish last season.

Following the Club World Cup, Wydad expressed interest in signing him on a permanent basis, but at the time were unable to meet the Brazilians’ asking price.

It was reported that the South African giants demanded a hefty fee for the former Orlando Pirates star which reflects his quality.

Now, African Times are reporting that the 32-year-old attacker has signed a two-year contract with Wydad and is expected to arrive in Morocco in the coming days to rejoin the team.

However, it remains unclear whether Sundowns agreed to a reduced transfer fee or if the Casablanca giants ultimately paid a fee to secure his services.

A right of reply was offered to Mamelodi Sundowns but no response was received at the time of publishing.
