The 38-year-old coach is renowned for his Tiki-taka style of play, which brought him success at Mamelodi Sundowns before he left to join Wydad Athletic Club last season.
Just weeks into his tenure at Alger, Burkina Faso international midfielder Mohamed Zougrana has lavished praise on Mokwena, highlighting his technical expertise.
Zougrana, who joined Alger in 2023, is confident that the former Wydad tactician will help him improve, as he is a strong admirer of Mokwena’s Tiki-taka philosophy.
"He is a well-known coach on the continental level, and he previously succeeded with Sundowns by winning the CAF Champions League title, which allowed him to shine," Zougrana said according to Chaab.
"Technically, he is different from the previous coach, because the South African coach greatly prefers quick plays and short passes, which will help us a lot. He will help us develop our technical and artistic capabilities during the next season.
